Freedom
| Hello again, I just got back from 4 days in Washington DC. What an interesting time to be there among the protestors and supporters of healthcare reform.
The very largest protest was over the e-verify for immigrants. I watched as thousands of immigrants marched in an effort to unite their families in America. I had to ask myself the question, are not we all immigrants? If I remember correctly from my history classes, we all came from somewhere else to be here unless you are a Native American Indian. A taxi driver from Nigeria and another from Ethiopia reminded us of the freedom that we all have here, the freedom to march the streets begging for change, the freedom to shout from a loud speaker their hope for a better tomorrow and the freedom to be heard if anyone chose to listen. I did. Why do we continually have to label everything and everyone? I visited to Native American museum on Sunday. I found myself to be very sad at the way we, immigrants, came into their land and decided it belonged to us, the word, “Us” being the “white” race. It is interesting how the color of your skin automatically gives you freedoms that other Americans don’t have even to this day. Equality among all? Without even realizing it, I got dressed for the day and pulled out my shirt that said “One Day, One Earth.” As my heart felt suffering for the people passing me by, that too, is my hope that one day we can all belong as One Earth. |
