“Old Habits of Thinking”
” Old habits of thinking stick around, often for an entire lifetime, largely because you create internal reasons to reinforce and maintain them. These reasons, which I’m calling “excuses,” can become permanently lodged in your subconscious– They are labels you have placed on yourself that ultimately become you self-definition.” Dr. Wayne Dyer
It is Wednesday my friends, keep your light on, keep your focus on this awareness that you are creating now and will be expanding on this weekend (if you are participating in the retreat).
Look at the labels you have put on yourself.
Are they your beliefs about yourself?
Look at that belief system?
What do you believe to be the truth about yourself?
If you can’t answer that question, don’t worry, you will be able to by Sunday afternoon! For all of you that feel like you are missing out on something very special? Well, you are!
The next intensive Forgetting 2 Remember Seminar is scheduled for July 16-18. Go to www.forgetting2remember.com to register!
What one thing?
I have a couple girls that I mentor once a week. The mentoring is a part of a service that some schools in our area participate in. These kids have all “earned the right” to be in this school because of failing grades, family dysfunction, poor choices, drugs, pregnancy and some simply not fitting in to the norm of traditional teaching styles. I have two of the most amazing young women that I have ever met that I have the privilege of seeing and being a part of their lives every week.
The mentoring program is set up to follow a program of the 40 assets that everyone needs to have in their lives to be successful.
Today’s activity was simply to get the girls to think about things on a deeper level than most 17 year olds think. “If you could meet any 4 people in the world and have dinner with them who would they be and why?” “What are you most proud of in your life?” “Who needs you?” There were about thirty different questions that we went through and it was interesting to hear the girls speak about something they had never even thought of before.
One question that really struck me the most was, “If you could change ONE thing about yourself, what would it be and how would that ONE change, change your whole life?”
So I pose that question to each of you.
We all have one thing, a thought pattern, a habit, an old belief, a fear, that we could let go of and change the rest of our lives.
What’s yours?
Doing what we have always done.
What comes from that “doing”? The sameness! The effort it takes to change a habit is not for the faint of heart. The commitment has to be an everyday awareness and process of watching yourself for the sameness to appear and then in that “catch” do something different.
It is that flashlight continually shining at yourself and being on guard for that same old habit to reappear and stopping it in its tracks.
What happens is we tire of the watching and little by little let go of the new awareness’ that have changed our direction and slowly ease back into the easy chair and turn on the old familiar show, only again to find ourselves doing what we have always done.
How do we stay aware, keep on growing, and make changes that will last a lifetime and change the course of our tomorrow?
Share with me what keeps you moving forward. What keeps you coming back for more growth?
