Staying the course.

 This is from www.tut.com

Yesterday I watched a small bird, flying very fast, disappear into the canopy of an oak tree. So dense were its leaves that it was impossible to see what happened next, though I can tell you it remained inside.

I wondered how the little bird found its opening through the leaves at such a speed, and then managed to gently align its fragile body on the branch it chose to land upon, all within a fraction of a second. Not to mention the impossible to imagine flying maneuvers required: the banking, the curling, the vertical and horizontal stabilizations, the deceleration and landing.

Memory? Calculation? Not in that tiny brain. Instinct? Maybe, but how does instinct know which way the branches of a tree have grown when no two are the same?

That little bird just knew. It had faith, in spite of not being able to see how things would work out, that if (and only if) it stayed the course the details would be taken care of; that an opening would appear and a twig would be found. In fact, had she slowed down enough to carefully and logically inspect the tree first, the prudent thing to do, she would have lost her lift and fallen to the ground.

Kind of like reaching for your dreams. Neither memory, nor calculating, nor instincts are the deciding factors, but faith coupled with action.

Tallyho,
    The Universe

WARNING: staying the course is NOT the same as clinging to a HOW.

Trusting

Wow, this one is hard for everyone.  We think we have it all worked out in our mind on how our life is going to look.  When I’m going to graduate, move to my own place, get a ” real” job in the field that my degree is in, get married, have children, grow old with my loved ones beside me.  In our perfect world and all in our perfect plan.

Life has it’s own plan though and most of the time it simply does not match up to what we had in mind.  Only a few ever live so contently in their plan, only a few ever have it turn out to way they imagined.  Are they the lucky ones?  Did the Universe shine more brightly on them than us?

I don’t think so.  I think that there is a plan and one of greatness if we can just trust the process.  Learning from it’s teachings and even letting  go of our own ideas.  I believe that even the lucky few that had life turned out on schedule still did that exact thing.  Let life lead and embraced it.   I believe that everything happens for a reason and that everyone we encounter comes into our life to teach us.  The lessons that we can open ourselves up to and grow from helps us in understanding the need to trust.  To grow with life, to become life and to be one with life.  We all become the lucky ones then, not just the select few.

And the time we most need to trust the journey is the time when we don’t think we can.

Be impeccable with your word

The first of The Four Agreements by Don Miguel Ruiz.  Another book well worth the read.

“The word is not just a sound or a written symbol.  The word is a force; it is the power you have to express and communicate, to think, and thereby create the events in your life,” Ruiz says.

We create everyday with this force.  With our words.  How we use them, how we express them, where they reside in us.  They create how the world see us through their form.

Trust is built or destroyed by words.  Love is built or destroyed by words.  They say a lot about who and what we stand for.  To be impeccable with your word is the first and the most important agreement that we can make to ourselves and to the world.
